NO HOLDING BACK

Comedian, actor Chris D’Elia isn’t afraid to take on any topic

Nothing is off-limits when it comes to Chris D’Elia’s comedy. And a sampling of his style can be seen in the Netflix comedy special “Man on Fire.” “If I want to say it, I will say it,” he says in a recent phone interview. “I probably wouldn’t tell a personal story about someone else. Everything is from my point of view.”

New Mexicans will get a taste of D’Elia’s style during his show in Albuquerque on Saturday, July 15, at the Historic El Rey Theater.

D’Elia, 37, is a stand-up comedian who has carved out a niche for himself by touring the country.

He’s also jumped into roles on the small screen, playing Alex Miller on the sitcom “Whitney” and Danny Burton on “Undateable.”

He was born in New Jersey, and his family moved to Los Angeles when he was 12.

D’Elia began acting in high school and knew he wanted to entertain audiences.

“I don’t know if there was ever one moment when I realized that acting is what I wanted to do,” he says. “I remember that I couldn’t see myself

doing anything else.”

D’Elia works on material almost daily. He will get an idea and work it out in a routine.

“I try to do the best version I can,” he says.

Aside from his stand-up comedy and acting, D’Elia is also host of the weekly podcast “Congratulations With Chris D’Elia.”

Not to be left out is his dream to write and star in a TV series, which he is shopping around and can’t talk about too much. (He’s been writing scripts since he was in his early 20s.)

“Everything that I do, I want to challenge myself,” he says. “I don’t want to do the same types of projects over and over. I’m looking for roles and projects to challenge me. That’s what keeps it interesting for me. I’d love to take on a role in a drama. It’s something people wouldn’t expect.”

For his show in Albuquerque, D’Elia says, there will be plenty of new material.

“I’m always working on new stuff,” he says. “There will also be some material from ‘Man on Fire.’ It’s going to be an awesome night.”
