Collins: Giants could be ‘unstoppable’

-

Landon Collins and Dak Prescott have a difference of opinion.

While the Cowboys’ second-year quarterback said last week that his team would win a second straight NFC East title, a feat that would give Dallas three of the last four crowns, Collins strongly disputed that prediction.

“I highly doubt that,” the Giants safety said. “They do not control the East. That’s over with. We’re going to make a run for it. They’re not going to win it, I can tell you that much. We definitely want to take over.”

The Giants haven’t won a division title since 2011, but they are coming off a season in which they won 11 games and made the playoffs for the first time since that 2011 Super Bowl run. They have also added wide receiver Brandon Marshall and first-round pick Evan Engram, a tight end, and have most of their defense returning.

“Our offense has all the keys that we need now,” Collins said. “Defensive-wise too. I mean, we have everything now. All we have to do is put it together, make a brotherhood out of it and just trust in one another. I think we’re unstoppable from that point on.”

They’ll find out quickly. The Giants open the season against the Cowboys in Dallas on Sept. 10. The Giants beat the Cowboys twice last season, even though Dallas won the division.

OHER: NFL offensive lineman Michael Oher, who faces misdemeanor charges of assaulting an Uber driver, has been sued in connection with the incident.

Girma Berkessa says in the complaint that an “extremely intoxicated” Oher pushed him to the ground, kicked him and called him a homophobic slur several times April 14. The complaint says Oher “acted maliciously, intentionally, willfully, wantonly, recklessly and/or negligently.”

CHIEFS: The Chiefs have signed quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a four-year rookie contract.

Kansas City traded its first- and third-round picks this year and its first-round pick next year to the Buffalo Bills to grab the Texas Tech quarterback with the 10th overall selection.

PACKERS: Green Bay inducted two new members to the franchise’s Hall of Fame as all-time leading receiver Donald Driver and ball-hawking cornerback Mark Lee weree honored on Saturday at a banquet at Lambeau Field.

Driver had 743 catches for 10,137 yards to lead all Packers receivers. His 62 career touchdowns are fifth in franchise history.

Lee had 31 interceptions in 11 seasons in Green Bay. He missed just eight games during his Packers career, appearing in 157 games.

CARDINALS: For the first time in his career, Carson Palmer abandoned his usual pattern and didn’t throw at all for several months.

The 37-year-old quarterback, entering his 15th season, says the results are obvious as he begins his fifth training camp with Arizona.

“It’s hard to explain. You just feel better,” Palmer said before the team went through its first training camp practice Saturday. “You feel like you have more zip, more velocity. … I feel like I can go out and throw 150 balls in practice (which he said he won’t do). I don’t think I felt that way coming into camp last year.”

After their disappointing 2016 season, the Cardinals aren’t getting much national attention this year. Experts point to Palmer’s age and the fact his play diminished a year ago after his outstanding 2015 campaign.
