Zella Lee Hoffman Boyer, 90, died Friday, July 21, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David, two siblings, Dwight Hoffman and Mary Guinn, and her dearest friend, Lois Carrico.

Zella and her twin sister, Della, were born July 11, 1927, to Claud and Lela Hoffman at their home in Clinton, Oklahoma. The Hoffmans moved to Albuquerque in 1934.

Zella graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1945, and married David Earl Boyer, the boy next door, the following January. David and Zella had five wonderful children. David worked as a carpenter and door-hanger, and Zella was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in school. She then worked as a bookkeeper for several different companies. While working and keeping up a household, Zella loved being active in the community, both in the church (Friendship Baptist Mission) and in quilting circles (New Mexico Quilters and Golden Girls).

Zella leaves behind five children: Sandi Boyer, Janice Gordanier (Floyd), Kent Boyer (Charlotte), Mark Boyer (Gretta), and Cathy Kitterman (Everett), seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Della Moseley, Maxine Jenkins (Frank), Jeanne Butler (George), John Hoffman and her sister-in-law, Ruth Hoffman. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends – who she loved very much.

For the last two years, Zella resided happily at The Village at Alameda Assisted Living, where she was surrounded by loving care-takers and friends.

A viewing will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 9:00 a.m., followed by a service at 10:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of West Albuquerque, 6400 Golf Course Road NW 87120. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE 87107.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home in Portales, www. nmbch.com. Please visit our online guestbook for Zella at www.FrenchFunerals.com
