Lobos fans need good rally to win

The Longest Game in Baseball History: Southwestern States vs. The Lobos

The grueling battle between the States and the Lobos has been tied for 30 years, but the home team, the Lobos, has dropped behind by 11 runs in the bottom of the 14,040th inning. The Lobos have two outs, the bases are empty and the mighty slugger, Don Diego, is at bat with a count of 3-2. The stakes are high —winner gets all the power and loser faces certain extinction. Over a million Lobos fans are glued to their seats, holding their breath.

Diego needs to start the rally of a century or the Lobos are doomed. The final pitch is thrown and Diego hits a line drive single to right field. Fired up by Don’s success, the next 10 Lobo batters reach base successfully. Now the bases are loaded and the Lobos need four more runs to win. The mighty Don Diego is back at bat. The fans grow silent, some can’t stand to watch. Diego swings with all his power at the first pitch. It’s a bit high and outside, but — BAM — the mighty Don drives a grand slam home run into the upper deck to win the game for the Lobos. The Lobos fans are ecstatic with joy!

This is the challenge Lobos supporters face. We need a strong rally in the final inning to win. Giving up now is not an option. We can still win this game. DAVID PARSONS Albuquerque
