GOLF
NEWBIE WINS: Former PGA professional Jonathan Bartlett, a veritable newcomer to Santa Fe, etched his name onto the City Championship cup, carding a 3-round, 6-under 216 in play at Las Campanas Golf Club, Santa Fe Country Club and the Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe Thursday through Sunday. On the women’s side, Chanet Fiorina shot a 3-over 219 to win the title for the second time in three years.
BASKETBALL
ROYBAL HONORED: New Santa Fe High School girls basketball coach Cindy Roybal was inducted into the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor on Thursday. Roybal, who built winners with the girls programs at Española Valley and Santa Fe Indian School, also coached at New Mexico Highlands University and is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

GOLF: The 20th anniversary of the Fore Kids Golf Tournament will be celebrated Aug. 25 at the Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe. Created by former city councilors Peso Chavez and Molly Whitted, the tournament has brought recognition to the youth of our city by generating revenue to create scholarships for local youths. Throughout the years of the tournament, 36,146 scholarships have been awarded. For more information or to sign up, call 955-4400.
HOOPS: The University of New Mexico men’s basketball program will be holding a youth basketball camp Aug. 5-6 at St. Michael’s High School. The camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 1-8. For more information or to register, see coachpaulweir.com.
