Claudia G. Herrera, 100, passed away July 22, 2017. Claudia was born on June 6, 1917 in Las Vegas, NM to Manuel and Cleofas Garcia. She also resided in San Geronimo, NM; Gallinas Canyon, NM; and Mineral Hill, NM.
Claudia married her first husband Julian Lesperance with whom she had her first 6 children. Later on Claudia remarried her lifelong friend and love, Ernest. Together they shared 4 children and lived in San Francisco, CA and Albuquerque, NM. Ernest later passed away in 1999.
She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church for many years, as well as the Guadalupanas at Mt. Carmel Church. Claudia loved spending her time sewing and working on arts and crafts. She also shared her love of food with those close around her; coffee, beans, and tortillas were her favorite.
Claudia is preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Cleofas Garcia; husband Ernest P. Herrera; brother’s Frank and Celedonio Garcia; sister Dora Garcia; daughter Margie Gallegos; son Manuel Lesperance; daughter Priscilla Sanchez; and son Frank Herrera. She is survived by son Louie Lesperance and wife Pila; daughter Grace Martinez and husband Pete; daughter Bernadette Apodaca and husband Leo; son Alfonso Herrera and Lulu; son Vince Herrera and wife Cheryl; son Dave Garcia and wife Anthonette. Claudia was blessed with 31 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and 33 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends who love and miss her dearly.
A Rosary will be recited on Thursday August 3, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. both at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 9502 4th St. N.W. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Manuelito Garcia, Andres Sanchez-Garcia, Zachary Herrera, Frank Garcia, Andrew Garcia, Cele Marquez, and Lucas Marquez.
