-

Helen "Nena" Melendrez Ogas passed away peacefully on July 27, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM.

She was born on February 24, 1933 in Silver City, New Mexico. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John B. Ogas, her 3 children diana frederick, John Ogas and Karen Stoughton, daughter-in-law Allison Hudson, son-inlaws Ron Frederick and Bill Stoughton, three grand-children Hayley Ogas, Johnny Stoughton and Blakeley Stoughton and numerous cherished family and friends.

As a beautiful wife and devoted loving mother, may her efforts on earth be rewarded in Heaven. Helen is remembered by her family and friends as a woman of great inner and outer beauty who moved through this world with a generosity of spirit that both taught and sustained the many who loved her. Helen served as an Air Force officer’s wife with her husband in multiple stations across the globe before finally settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She held all positions in the Officer’s Wives Club and numerous volunteer organizations in addition to being a supportive wife during her husband’s military and civilian career.

She loved to dance and had a deep passion for music. She taught us to always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them. We are all so much richer for having known and loved you, Vaya con Dios. She touched the hearts of everyone and always left with a smile.

Her favorite prayer was that of St. Francis – "Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen"

Private services will be held for the immediate family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family respectfully asks that Tribute/ Memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association on behalf of our wife and mother, Helen M. Ogas.
