In loving memory of Rebecca Dianne Carter (Roberts) A LIFE WELL LIVED Rebecca was born May 6th, 1954 to Everett and Donna Roberts and left this world for a better, pain free place on July 13, 2017. She was preceded by her older brothers Everett Roberts Jr. and Steven Roberts of Colorado, followed by her younger brother Jack Roberts of Tennessee. She was married to Steve Carter, a long time resident of Albuquerque, on May 26, 2001 From her humble beginnings as a Colorado farm girl, Rebecca accomplished a great deal during a life cut short by a losing battle with cancer. She grew up in eastern Colorado, the daughter of rancher and a wheat farmer. When her father got an opportunity to open a Farmer’s Insurance Agency in Denver they moved and her life was forever changed. She attended North Arvada Junior High and Arvada Senior High. She regularly became a teacher’s or coach’s assistant always wanting helping others. She graduated From Arvada Senior High in 1972 and From the University of Northern Colorado in 1977.

During her collage years her passion for sports came to the front leading her to a position in the front office of the Denver Nuggets. One of her fondest memories of her time with the Nuggets was watching two young college hopefuls play one on one - they turned out to be Michael Jordan and Earvin "Magic" Johnson. Rebecca left the Nuggets in 1978 to help Bill Wall form the AAU by becoming (deep breath here) the Assistant Director of the American Women’s Amateur Basketball Organization. While holding that position she had the honor of managing two Women’s Olympic Basketball teams. Her next venture was to represent Converse as their ambassador to virtually all the major college basketball teams. When we visited the University of Tennessee and walked out on the court Pat Summit turned towards us to say: "Oh look who it is, it’s Becky." Rebecca finally returned to Denver and took the job of sponsorship management for the PGA Tournament known as "The International at Castle Pines". She worked for the International for 13 years where she managed some of world’s largest sponsoring companies under a $12 million dollar budget. When her husband, Steve Carter, decided he could no longer stand Denver’s winters or its lack of green chili, they moved to Albuquerque. She had the idea to start a PGA Champion’s Tour tournament in Albuquerque. Although she had a great deal of help from a well known local resident, Donnie Leonard, after two years of hard work things just didn’t work out. Rebecca loved the Albuquerque area – its culture, architecture, majestic scenery and the people who make New Mexico such a great place to live. Now she has left this crazy World and gone to a better, pain free place. She was loved and will be missed by many. May her soul rest in peace.
