An Albuquerque woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to seconddegree murder in the death of Tiffany Boyer, who disappeared after claiming she was raped by a man known as Machete Bob.

Stephanie Stepp, 27, is one of four arrested in Boyer’s death and under the terms of her plea agreement, she will be sentenced to 24 years in prison. She also agreed to offer truthful statements about the events surrounding Boyer’s death.

Detectives said they were told that Boyer was angry at Robert “Machete Bob” McGuire and told another person that McGuire raped her. Soon after, McGuire went missing. According to police, he was later found dead in a shallow grave in Valencia County, and might have been killed with a crossbow.

Police said that McGuire’s friends killed Boyer when they learned that her allegations might have led to his disappearance. Her body was found in November 2015 in Torrance County.

According to police, Stepp and three others took Boyer and her boyfriend to a home in Northeast Albuquerque on June 30, 2015, where they covered the floor with plastic before beating her to death with a hammer. Stepp, police said, attempted to strangle the woman but “it didn’t work.” Boyer’s boyfriend was bound and gagged and locked in a closet during the beating.

In addition to second-degree murder, Stepp pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit firstdegree murder and kidnapping. She will be sentenced after her co-defendants’ cases are resolved.
