HOROSCOPES BY HOLIDAY

-

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 6): A paradox: You have to risk rejection in order to experience belonging. You’ve the courage to do it often this year, and the resounding message will be: “It’s about time you joined us.” You’ll be generous with the windfall you receive at the end of 2017. In the new year professional gains will build on personal developments. Libra and Pisces adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 5, 20, 44 and 18.

ARIES (March 21-April 19): You’re good at hiding things that need to be hidden. Tape it to the back of a picture; put it in the freezer; keep it in the sleeve of an old coat ... or lock it in a heart chamber where it can never escape to your tongue.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Relationships require space just as much as they require intimacy. Without the space, it’s not a relationship; it’s a single entity. Without the intimacy, same thing, except it’s two single entities.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21): When you’re trying to do something new, establish better habits or change your behavior, setting yourself up for success is key. Planning ahead will help you stay in control.

CANCER (June 22-July 22): Your nearness to others changes their brainwaves. This is true for everyone. It is impossible to be among other beings without having an impact. What you do for yourself you do for all.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): People who struggle like crazy to get control of circumstances will often fail. But those who put their best efforts into controlling their own responses to circumstances experience a rise in power.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Should you have the strength to persist or the strength to let go and start over? Life takes courage no matter which choice you make. The right choice won’t feel easy so much as it will feel worth the effort.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23): You’d prefer a good situation keep being good forever, but it’s nothing to stress over. Things change in their time, not yours. Until then, enjoy. When the time is right you’ll move on, keep control, embrace change and stay happy.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21): You’ve a talent for accurately calculating risk. You’ll make a shrewd and profitable move based on the data you gather and analyze over the next three days.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Social geniuses know that while excellent questions are crucial in opening up a conversation, there’s no point in asking them unless you’re ready to listen carefully to the answer.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): In most things, you prefer to share. It’s almost never just about you, which is great news: Who needs the pressure and responsibility? There’s a larger context to understand. Look for it, and get things into perspective.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Feeling that you’re not up to the task doesn’t make it so. You’re actually the last one to judge accurately when it comes to what you can do today. Get a cheerleader and then soak up the encouragement.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Most things require trial and error. Allow fallibility to teach you, to chip away at any dogmatic beliefs you may be holding on to, and ultimately to change the way you think.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: A lot has changed since the last total solar eclipse visible in the continental United States, which was in 1979. Social media has altered the human brain, and it acts as a societal publicity agent — for everything from mashed cauliflower to the great American total eclipse of 2017. Monday’s Aquarius full-moon lunar eclipse is the pre-show to what promises to be the most publicized and witnessed total solar eclipse in human history.

Since a lunar eclipse is usually not the time to schedule crucial events, and considering that Mercury goes for a third retrograde on Saturday, the sweet spot for making things happen this week will land between Tuesday and Friday.

Those who make their living as artists know that anyone who waits for inspiration to strike risks going hungry in the interim. “Work first; feel it later” is the motto of professionals who often can induce creative labor by going through the motions of work. So the inspiration that comes with Saturday’s aspect of note, a visionary trine of Venus and Neptune, should be very special. Poetic justice, prophetic dreams, romantic genius, unexplainable connections, indescribable feelings and more are implicated in this aesthetic alignment.
