OUR PICKS FOR THE WEEK

- BY MEGAN BENNETT

Santa Fe, “Let’s Dance!” The city’s tribute to David Bowie will take place in the Railyard Saturday night, with several local artists coming together to honor the late musician and culutral icon. The three-hour show, part of the AMP Concert series, will feature more than 40 musicians, dancers and other performers. Last year, AMP pulled off a similar tribute event for Prince and wanted to do another for Bowie, who died in January 2016. The free show begins at 7 p.m. in the Railyard Plaza. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and snacks.

ON TWO LEGS: Animals standing upright and looking more like humans is the theme of the Selby Fleetwood Gallery’s latest exhibition. Multimedia artist and sculptor Geoffrey Gorman will be presenting his solo show of animals — including moose, rabbits and coyotes —positioned on two feet and made out of found materials. The idea came from a recent trip to Egypt, during which Gormann became fascinated with how ancient hieroglyphics represent animals with human-like posture and traits. “Standing Tall” will open tonight at the gallery, 600 Canyon Rd., and be on display through Aug. 30. The free artist reception will take place next Friday, Aug. 18, from 5-7:30 p.m.

“STILL IN THE GAME”: A Los Alamos man’s play about “aging with grace, courage and humor” is being staged at Teatro Paraguas until August 20. “Still in the Game,” which premiered earlier this week at the theater, 3205 Calle Marie, is Richard Benjamin’s story of a new widower in his 70s who grapples with what life now means. As he tries new things, like speed dating, his relationship with his daughter becomes strained. The widower, David, is played by Jim McGiffin. Other cast members include Juliet Salazar, Marguerite Scott, Roxanne Tapia and Alix Hudson. General admission is $20, with the exception of $10 Thursdays. Limited income patrons can pay $12. Buy tickets at 505-424-1601 or still2017.brownpapertickets.com.

COMMUNITY PICNIC: In conjunction with National Farmers Market Week, the Santa Fe’s Farmer’s Market Institute will hold a first-time community picnic tonight in the Railyard. For $20-$25 at the door (free for kids ages 12 and under), patrons can dine on all-natural food from market vendors and local restaurants. Choices include Pollo Real chicken wings, Nambé Orchard burgers and Derailed at the Sage veggie skewers, with sides. In addition to food, ticket holders also have access to games and music. Second Street Brewery beer and local ice cream will also be available. The picnic starts at 6 p.m. in the Farmer’s Market Pavilion. Proceeds go to the Farmer’s Market Institute.
