SPORTS SPEAK UP!
IN (THE JOURNAL), UNM President Chaouki Abdallah spoke about the dilemma of the UNM athletic department falling short of budgetary goals. It doesn’t have to be that way. Since UNM won’t hire a Marketing Specialist from a Power 5 Conference to show them how it’s done, how about making the Isotopes’ John Traub an offer he can’t refuse? Shouldn’t someone who can draw a large crowd and sell merchandise for something so absurd as the “Albuquerque Green Chile Cheeseburgers” be able to get at least 30,000 people into a college football stadium six times a year? — Forever a Duke
MARTY, RUDY AND JAKE: I would love to see UNM’s football schedule you expect them to play? It’s hard to get any “Worthwhile” non conference competition every year for a home game because there is nobody to recruit from here. No D-1 Kids to try and impress. That’s the way this works. — JRM-Corrales
JAKE: I AGREE with your comment about Albuquerque disrespecting ourselves. Just because we are from New Mexico there is a unwritten rule that says Texas football is better than us and we should accept it and support the Lobos anyway with rose colored glasses. The fact that Bob Davie thinks he is (too) good for NM football players getting scholarships means he is also (too) good for my ticket dollar. Rudy: I also wonder if there are any teams worth watching on the home schedule. — Ernie Gerth from 2nd class NM
CAN I GET AN “amen” if you, like me, are tired of hearing these self righteous, sanctimonious Lobo “fans” who feel compelled to announce to the world that “I’m boycotting!” Fine, go ahead, stay home, but realize that Nobody Cares. — Joe, ABQ
DECEMBER 31, 2017, Oakland Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers. Even if North Korea is no longer a place, there will be more silver and black at that stadium than blue and yellow. — Larry the VOL
I DISAGREE with “JJ”. Lobo sports’ darkest time was the 94-17 loss at Fresno State in football when the Bulldogs were coached by “Weenie” Sweeney. — MHD
