CLEVELAND AT A GLANCE

- — James Yodice

Coach: Heath Ridenour (6th year; 46-13) Last season: 10-2; lost in 6A semifinals to Las Cruces Returning starters: 5 offense, 5 defense Key players: Angelo Trujillo, sr. (6-1, 195, QB); Mike Taylor, sr. (6-1, 285, G); Justin Ainsworth, sr. (6-4, 175, WR); Jacob Lovato, sr. (5-10, 230, C); Isaac Torres, sr. (5-7, 165, RB); Randy Nieto, jr. (5-6, 145, slot); Jason Zhang, sr. (5-11, 245, DT); Dion Hunter, jr. (6-3, 205, ILB); Dominic Thompson, sr. (6-1, 200, OLB); Jake Reed, sr. (5-9, 185, ILB); Caleb Kester, sr. (5-10, 170, S); Jesse Gonzales, sr. (5-11, 175, S).

Outlook: With Trujillo, injured in the regularseason finale against Volcano Vista last season on a cut that wrecked his ACL, back in the mix and healthy, there’s no reason to think the Storm won’t plug in some skillposition vacancies with stellar athletes. Torres is especially one to watch as the primary ball carrier. The defense lost some size due to graduation, but there are athletes aplenty on that side of the ball, too. Cleveland’s players would very much like to answer Rio Rancho’s 2016 title with one of their own. 2017 SCHEDULE (x-denotes District 1-6A game) Aug. 25, Oñate, 7 p.m. Aug. 31, at La Cueva (W), 7 p.m. Sept. 9, at Las Cruces (FOD), 1 p.m. Sept. 15, Centennial, 7 p.m. Sept. 22, Artesia, 7 p.m. Sept. 28, at Atrisco Heritage (C), 7 p.m. x-Oct. 6, at Rio Rancho, 7 p.m. x-Oct. 13, Cibola, 7 p.m. x-Oct. 20, at Piedra Vista, 7 p.m. Oct. 27, OPEN x-Nov. 3, Volcano Vista, 7 p.m. (C: Community Stadium; FOD: Field of Dreams; W: Wilson) Circle the date: Gotta be that visit from Artesia in Week 5. The Bulldogs have never played at Cleveland, and it’s a blue blood matchup in every possible way.
