Texan commits to Lobos
3-point shooting guard Noble puts up big numbers
The 2018 recruiting season is off to a good start for the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team.
After visiting Albuquerque over the weekend, Texas guard Quincy Noble pulled the trigger on a verbal commitment to join the Lobos starting in 2018-19. Noble, who hit 42 3-pointers for her high school team last season, announced her commitment via Twitter.
“So blessed and excited to be a Lobo!” Noble tweeted along with a wolf’ emoji and several photos taken during her visit. “can’t wait to make this place my home!”
Noble is a 5-foot-11 guard from McKinney, Texas, a suburb 37 miles north of Dallas. She plays for McKinney High School and for Texas Elite Prime during AAU season. Noble has posted impressive numbers for both teams.
In high school competition, Noble helped McKinney to a 20-12 record. As a junior she averaged 17.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.7 assists per game.
The scoring stats were nothing new. Noble eclipsed 1,000 career points scored during her sophomore season and has a shot to surpass 2,000 as a senior.
In club competition, Noble helped Texas Elite Prime win the adidas Uprising Summer National Championship earlier this month. She was teammates with Cibola senior and Florida State commit Amaya Brown.
Premier Basketball Report’s Dan Olson recently described Noble this way: “shoots 3s easily, has good handles and finishes well through contact.”
Olson, who compiles recruiting ratings for ESPNW, went on to say, “Quincy Noble is a high level prospect with a huge upside. … (Noble) is an ascending player whose game translates well to the next level.”
UNM coach Mike Bradbury confirmed his program is recruiting Noble. NCAA rules prohibit coaches from otherwise commenting on unsigned recruits.
Noble is the second player to commit to joining the Lobos for 2018-19, joining Gallup High grad and NMJC sophomore Ni’Asia McIntosh, who verbally committed in July.
New Mexico has four seniors (Laneah Bryan, Cherise Beynon, Tesha Buck and Alex Lapeyrolerie) on its roster this season and has one unfilled scholarship. Guard Aisia Robertson, a transfer from Kansas, will become eligible in 2018-19.
