KIMO SCREENS BOOKS ON FILM
Oscar-winning ‘The Age of Innocence’ to be shown
Series starts with “The Age of Innocence,” based on Edith Wharton’s 1920 Pulitzer Prizewinning novel.
After being closed for six weeks for renovations, the KiMo Theatre reopens Sunday to continue its 90th anniversary Season of Celebration with a free screening of a Pulitzer Prize-winning book turned into a film.
This month’s anniversary signature event is a showing of “The Age of Innocence” (1993) at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Directed by Martin Scorsese, “The Age of Innocence” is a tale of 19th century New York high society in which a young lawyer falls in love with a woman separated from her husband, while he is engaged to the woman’s cousin. The film is based on Edith Wharton’s
1920 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, organizers said in a news release.
The Columbia Pictures film stars Daniel DayLewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder and Miriam Margolyes. It won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design, and was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Winona Ryder), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Art Direction. The film was dedicated to Martin Scorsese’s father, Luciano Charles Scorsese, who died before it was completed.
