Please help us to feed the needy

-

Calling ALL neighborhoods! Now’s the time, if ever there was one, to get involved with the Neighbor to Neighbor Food Drive on September 16. With all of the turmoil nationally, as

well as right here in Santa Fe, it feels overwhelming. Everyone seems very distracted by all of the increasing threats and negativity coming from every direction.

We need you and your neighborhood to stand together with all the other neighborhoods. It is time to do something positive, to know that you are actually making a difference and helping others right here in Santa Fe. We need to move forward in a healthy, positive direction and not get bogged down in the mire of what’s happening in today’s world.

This is the sixth year for the Neighbor to Neighbor Food Drive. After last year’s recordbreaking totals, with 77 neighborhoods collecting over 96,000 pounds of food for The Food Depot, we definitely have a challenge to try to beat those numbers. I know we can do this, but we all need to pitch in. If you live in any community, neighborhood, or within an association or HOA, no matter what size, anywhere in the Santa Fe area, you can be a part of this food drive.

Just find a few people who want to help, decide on a central pickup location in your neighborhood, contact us and register by completing the participation form, pass out a flyer, email or talk with your neighbors and tell them the food needs to be at that central place by noon Saturday, September 16. The Food Depot or City truck will come and pick up all of your bags of food that Saturday afternoon. We also welcome monetary donations (in the form of a check with the name of the neighborhood on the memo line). Every $1 will buy 5 pounds of food because The Food Depot can stretch a dollar with bulk buying.

You know, hunger doesn’t happen just around the holidays, it is constant … it’s always here. Won’t you join me in helping to end hunger in northern New Mexico? There’s still enough time to join, but September is right around the corner, so please contact us now. Just do it!

For information, contact Linda Wilder Flatt at 474-8028 or Mona Ruark at The Food Depot at 4711633 ext. 112. Thank you for caring.
