Listen to the locals for once

- BY ROBERTO RAMIREZ ALBUQUERQUE RESIDENT

Iam a 12th generation New Mexican, and a Land Grant heir. My grandmother was born in Barelas, my grandfather owned a grocery store in Barelas, my daughter went to Longfellow Elementary School and I live in the heart of Barelas.

I am a single father, raising a daughter. I am a blue-collar worker. I dig ditches, trenches, build, repair and restore, the infrastructure in our community. I am active in the union.

I am a lifelong Democrat, from a family of only Democrats, and I voted for Steven Michael Quezada.

My daughter, Angelica, is a freshman at Albuquerque High School, where I am an alum. My daughter has told me she is going to live somewhere else after college. She said “there is no future for me here, daddy.” I tried to convince her otherwise. She is right. We have so many unemployed.

I am concerned about the economy. I want a future where my daughter has opportunity and choices. I want to see growth like Santolina and the West Side hospital. There was an opportunity to vote antiSantolina. It failed last election. You anti-growth people lost. Quit saying you speak for the community, because you do not. The voters voted, they speak for the community.

I read the articles and opinion pieces on Santolina. It is annoying that the Journal only published the pieces in the West Side paper, Rio West. The main anti-Santolina advocate, Virginia Necochea, is a transplant from California. Really? Why don’t you go back to California and let us New Mexicans vote for what we think is the right direction for our community?

It is disgusting that people, some not from the district — outsiders — would name-call and attempt to shame Quezada, calling him a traitor, trying to appeal to his “raza” side. Why? Because he does not fall on the sword for you? Do they really think that is convincing? You sound like President Trump. Your “fake news” is divisive and not truthful.

Quezada is voting with the community. The community that elected him. If they want a different outcome, they should run in the next election. Someone already tried to run an election on anti-Santolina — and failed. Best of luck, outsiders.

Quezada has my vote and support. Keep up the good work and solid representation of the people that elected you, Quezada. I wish I could attend the county meetings, but I go to work at 6 a.m. and only have from 5-9 p.m. to spend with my daughter, before bedtime. I am there in spirt, supporting you.
