Williams, Michael A.

-

Michael A. Williams of Albuquerque passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Ladera Nursing & Rehab Center. Michael endured many medical issues over the last several years of his life.

But, he dealt with them with the same smile and acceptance that was so typical of him.

He was born at Ft. Benning, GA, November 8, 1949, one of the eight children of Betty and Richard Williams. After graduating from high school in Albuquerque, Michael joined the Army. During his first enlistment he spent time in Vietnam. Next, the Army sent him to Korea where he was stationed at the DMZ. Michael was a good soldier and talked fondly of his time in the Army for the rest of his life.

While in Korea he met his future wife, Kyong Hui Yang. After being married in a civil ceremony in Ko- rea in 1969 they returned to the U.S. & were remarried in 1971 at KAFB. They had no children.

Michael was active in the community. For many years he owned his own business, NE-SE Appliance Repair and was involved with the Chamber of Commerce. He was an especially dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club of Alb. serving as its 85th president in 01-02. Later he became a Lt. Governor for the SW District of Kiwanis. While he was in Kiwanis, there were very few people who were as active & involved in the Kiwanis projects as Michael and Hui.

Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Pavilion at Sunset Memorial Park. Cremation has already taken place. At a future date Michael’s ashes will be scattered in a place Michael loved, at Kamp Kiwanis in western New Mexico.
