CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Chris Juarez of Albuquerqu­e caught a 4-pound largemouth bass Sept. 3 at the Corrales Drain. He was using a Texas rigged senko.

Beau Estrada of Albuquerqu­e caught and released a 4.12-pound smallmouth bass Saturday at Elephant Butte Lake. He was fishing the east side of the lake up from the butte and using a blue salt craw at 21 feet. Aronzo Charley, 10, of Thoreau caught a 21-inch catfish Saturday at the Grants River Walk Pond. He was using Charie’s Type B blood bait. Latana Laken Pinto of Farmington caught a 20-inch smallmouth bass Sept. 5 at Lake Farmington. She was using a drop-shot rig by the dam. Jacob Lucero, 9, of Rio Rancho caught a 20-inch, 5-pound channel catfish Saturday on the Rio Grande. He was using chicken liver. Sebastian Perez of Albuquerqu­e caught a 27-inch rainbow trout Sept. 3 at Shuree Ponds. He was using a homemade olive woolly bugger. At Storrie Lake: Kenny Maestas of Albuquerqu­e caught a 13½-pound catfish Saturday. He was using chicken liver. Frank Garcia of Clayton caught an 11½-pound catfish Sept. 10. He was using chicken liver. Jim Simpson of Amarillo caught and released a 5.34-pound largemouth bass Saturday at Ute Lake. He was using a fluke.

AROUND THE STATE

PECOS RIVER: The fall fishing season inside the national historical park opens today and runs through Nov. 6.

ISLETA LAKES: Fishing has been good. Baits reported are stink baits, garlic chicken liver, hot dogs and worms. Isleta Lakes will be closed to the public for fishing on Sunday due to a private event. We will reopen for normal business Monday, 6:30 a.m.-to 7 p.m.

SHADY LAKES: We restocked the trout ponds, and the rainbows are biting. Many large rainbows (averaging between 14-17 inches) were caught last week. The rainbow trout are averaging 10-12 inches in the easy-to-catch pond, and are biting on worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs. Catch and release for large mouth bass and perch. Bass are ranging between 2½-4½ pounds. Bass/perch are biting on top water plastics and night crawlers.

NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing at TINGLEY BEACH was good using hot dogs, worms, chicken liver, beef liver and shrimp for channel catfish.

On the ALBUQUERQU­E AREA DRAINS, fishing was fair to good using worms for bluegill and catfish.

Fishing at ABIQUIU LAKE was good using tubes, grubs, worms, square bill crank baits and top water lures for smallmouth bass. Bank fishing in the morning hours was good using worms for bluegill.

Fishing at FENTON LAKE was good using Pistol Petes, Rooster Tails, Super Dupers, Panther Martin spinners, Fire Bait, PowerBait and worms for trout.

Streamflow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 13.4 cfs. Trout fishing on the Jemez was good for anglers using copper John Barrs, bead-head pheasant tail nymphs, worms and salmon eggs. Fishing on the CEBOLLA was very good using worms, Fire Balls and yellow PowerBait.

Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER on Monday morning was 761 cfs. Fly fishing action through the high-quality waters was good for anglers using RS2s, root beers, jujus, emergers, red annelids, San Juan worms, dead chickens, Adams, comparadun­s and small bead-head pheasant tail nymphs. Trout fishing through the bait waters was fair to good using night crawlers, PowerBait, San Juan worms, jerk baits, woolly buggers and Panther Martin spinners.

Fishing at NAVAJO LAKE was good using tubes, curly tail grubs, crank baits, jerk baits and top water lures for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using top-water lures, chatter baits, jerk baits and crank baits for northern pike. Fishing was very good using worms, grubs and small crank baits for perch.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing was fair to good using cut bait, shrimp, night crawlers and chicken liver for catfish.

Fishing at EAGLE NEST LAKE was very good using worms for perch.

At LAKE MALOYA, fishing was good using woolly buggers, parachute Adams, Pistol Petes, marshmallo­ws, Fire Balls and PowerBait for trout.

Streamflow on on the RIO GRANDE on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 281 cfs. Fishing was good using poundmeist­ers, wooly buggers, copper John Barrs, spinners, PowerBait and night crawlers for brown and rainbow trout.

Fishing on the GALLINAS RIVER was good using worms and Fire Balls for trout.

At SANTA ROSA LAKE, fishing was good using crank baits, tubes, worms and jerk baits for smallmouth bass.
