A spin in the country
DJ puts his mixing skills to use on Jason Aldean tour
Dee Jay Silver has always followed his own path.
One would think that as a DJ, he would remix dance tracks. He does it one better. He remixes country songs.
And with his most recent business venture, he’s opened Nice Nice Baby, a clothing line for kids.
“There’s no cool kids clothes and wanted to start my own,” he says with a laugh. “They are funny, and parents seem to be having some fun with them.”
He started the clothing line during his downtime.
Silver also released a remix album, “Made To Do,” on iTunes.
“I really don’t believe in putting out records,” he says. “I’m not Jason Aldean or Thomas Rhett. I let each single live for a little while and then move on to the next chapter of my life. I believe in singles. That’s the new way music is being consumed.”
Silver began DJ’ing while in college in Arkansas.
Since then, he’s toured the world as a DJ.
“One gig turned into the next,” he says of his beginnings. “Back in the day, you didn’t have computers, YouTube, or schools to learn how to DJ. If you were going to DJ, you had to learn from another DJ. They’d say, ‘I’ll take you under my wing, but this is what you’re going to do.’ Basically, you’re going to be my whipping boy for a couple of years.”
In recent summers, Silver has been on Aldean’s summer tours to provide something extra on the tours.
“I’ll play music during the breaks and keep the energy up,” he says. “We try to make each show very different. This time around, we have Chris Young and Kane Brown out with us. They bring their own set of fans to the mix. It’s about having a good time.”
After the tour is over on Oct. 31, Silver will head back to Las Vegas, Nev., where he has a music residency at the Foundation Room and the MGM Gold Buckle Zone.
“When I do a Vegas show, it’s all different,” he says. “That’s what I love about what I do. Nothing is ever the same.”
