NFL MAN of the Year : JJ Watt. No discussion or vote needed. — MHD

JEMELE HILL will be a victim of the Smothers Brothers rule. Even the No. 1 TV show in America in 1968, The Smothers Brothers Hour, could not speak truth to power. They got fired by CBS. — Larry the VOL

THANK YOU Jemele Hill for revalidating my disdain and boycott of ESPN. You still have a job and Curt Schilling gone because of his comments on transgenders. — Jim

THE FUTURE of women’s tennis is here and their names are Madison and Sloane. What a terrific pair! — PKB, Los Ranchos

You also can argue that the future of women’s tennis will be here at the Coleman Vision tournament beginning Sunday. See Geoff Grammer’s preview on Sunday. — Randy, Journal SPAHN, AND SAIN, was the cry of the Bostonand pray Braves.for rainI guess we’re now praying for Sports Speak Up! — Larry the VOL

OUR FATHER who art in heaven … no need for that, Randy. Just cut the space for anything related to A.) soccer (such wasted energy in watching an entire game that might have just one score), B.) professional tennis (most people don’t like the “floppers”), C.) anything related to New Mexico State (after all, the majority of Journal readers live in and around “Lobo Town”). In an instant there is plentiful space restored for the popular Sports Speak Up! column. — ’72 Lobo

SAVE SPACE for Sports Speak Up! I am with Bob; it’s the first thing I look for upon opening up my Journal each morning. — Patricia Patriot Murphy

AFTER (TERANCE) Mathis had been in the NFL for a couple of years my two boys (8 & 6 years old) and I saw him at the mall. He spent time to talk to them and give them autographs- they remember that to this day (they’re now 34 & 32). He was a Lobo great Lobo football player. I always appreciated him as a man. — Alan Lay

I’M ONE OF many that have wanted Davie fired for not recruiting deserving New Mexico kids. It’s definitely been a slap in New Mexicans’ face for far too long. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for Davie and we can have a true New Mexico team like when Rocky was the coach. — Ernie Gerth
