Cowboys’ Scandrick out for Denver game

Beckham improving; Vikes’ Bradford ailing

FRISCO, Texas — Dallas cornerback Orlando Scandrick has been ruled out of Sunday’s game at Denver with a broken left hand.

The Cowboys have said they don’t think the 10th-year player will miss much time after getting injured in the season-opening win over the New York Giants. It’s more a question of how the hand will be protected when Scandrick plays.

Receiver Terrance Williams (ankle) and safety Byron Jones (groin) were listed as questionable Friday.

BRONCOS: Ahtyba Rubin is ready to face Ezekiel Elliott if called upon Sunday, just 48 hours after joining the Denver Broncos to fortify their defensive front.

“I definitely say I fit in a little more comfortably” than most new players would, Rubin said. “This is my 10th year so … just put me in and I’m ready to go.”

Denver signed the 6-foot-2, 310-pound Rubin to a one-year deal Friday and placed defensive end Jared Crick on injured reserve with a back injury that will require surgery.

Rubin insisted he doesn’t need much time to get up to speed in order to help the Broncos contain Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys.

“I’m all in,” said Rubin, who arrived in town Thursday night.

GIANTS: Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is doing a little more at practice and apparently getting closer to playing Monday night against the Detroit Lions.

Coach Ben McAdoo said Friday that Beckham responded well Thursday to his first practice in more than three weeks, but the three-time Pro Bowler was still listed as limited for the workout.

Beckham has not played in a game since injuring his left ankle on Aug. 21 in a preseason game.

BENGALS: Cincinnati made the first step toward digging out from its historically bad start Friday, firing offensive coordinator Ken Zampese a day after they again failed to get into the end zone. The Bengals have no TDs in their two games.

QBs coach Bill Lazor was promoted to coordinator, a spot he held with the Dolphins in 2014-15.

VIKINGS: QB Sam Bradford is expected to play at Pittsburgh despite a knee injury that limited him all week in practice.

Coach Mike Zimmer said Friday he anticipates that Bradford (questionable) will play Sunday.

RAIDERS: Oakland signed offensive lineman Donald Penn to a $21 million, two-year extension, ensuring the Pro Bowl left tackle will remain with the team through the 2019 season.

Penn, 34, had missed much of training camp and preseason while holding out in search of a new contract. He is making $5.8 million in base salary this season but had been looking for a deal that would put him in the top 10 of offensive linemen.

The new deal, announced Friday, puts Penn in the top 15 and kicks in after this season.

DOLPHINS: Miami LB Rey Maualuga (hamstring) has been ruled out of Sunday’s game in LA against the Chargers.

Receiver Jarvis Landry (knee) was listed as questionable.

PATRIOTS: New England said four players have been ruled out for Sunday’s game at New Orleans, including starting linebacker Dont’a Hightower and receiver Danny Amendola.

The team said Friday that Hightower will be sidelined with a knee injury. Amendola is dealing with concussion and knee issues. Special teams captain Matt Slater (hamstring) and defensive tackle Vincent Valentine (knee) will also sit.

SEAHAWKS: Cornerback Richard Sherman (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s home game vs. San Francisco.

CARDINALS: Injuries have forced Arizona to have new starters John Wetzel and Alex Boone on the left side of the offensive line Sunday at Indianapolis.
