SHOW TO HELP HARVEY VICTIMS
Top talent in Albuquerque is pitching in for a benefit concert of songs from musicals. The proceeds will go to Harvey relief.
Sandia Prep is hosting some of Albuquerque’s most accomplished musical theater performers who will appear in The Concert for Texas on Thursday to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
The show is set for 8 p.m. at the Sandia Prep Center for the Performing Arts, 532 Osuna Road NE.
“The thousands upon thousands of people hurt by this storm are, after all, our neighbors to the east,” said Myra Cochnar, president of Landmark Musicals, which is producing the show. “Albuquerque’s musical theater performers wanted to help by presenting this concert to raise money for the victims.”
The concert will feature popular theater songs by Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, Gilbert & Sullivan, Cole Porter, Jerry Herman, Jule Styne, Frank Loesser, Stephen Sondheim, Meredith Wilson and others. The performers include a broad array of local talent.
The songs are from such productions as “The Sound of Music,” “Carousel,” “Man of La Mancha,” “Hello, Dolly!,” “Anything Goes,” “Gypsy,” “My Fair Lady,” “Annie,” “Oliver!,” “Pippin” and “Peter Pan.”
Tickets are $20 at the door and may be reserved by emailing theconcertfortexas@gmail.com.
All proceeds will go to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation, organizers said in a news release.
