La Cumbre gears up to sell its beers in Ariz.
ABQ-based brewery to launch its products in Phoenix on Oct. 9
The award-winning La Cumbre Brewing is expanding to Arizona, the company announced Monday on Twitter.
It will launch its products in the Phoenix market, beginning Oct. 9, with plans to roll out La Cumbre beer statewide within a few weeks after that, President Jeff Erway said.
“The responses on our Twitter account and Facebook and things like that has been overwhelmingly from Arizona,” Erway said. “Arizona seems like the state that’s most thirsty for La Cumbre beer.”
La Cumbre will distribute its year-round and seasonal beers in both packaged and draft forms and will sell its merchandise through its distributor, as well as at beer festivals.
Erway said La Cumbre earlier expanded to Colorado not because of customer demand, but because Colorado already had a strong craft beer infrastructure. Now that the company is firmly established, Erway said it’s a good time to expand again.
La Cumbre was founded in 2010 and maintains a taproom in the brewery district at 3313 Girard NE. It saw extensive renovations in 2014 but has not opened additional taprooms around the city, as many of its competitors have done.
“We’ve been trying to be pretty conservative with our growth,” Erway said. “We don’t want to bite off more than we can chew... We like to set up shop and get as much as we can out of each market.”
Erway says La Cumbre does not have plans to establish a taproom in Arizona. “One project at a time,” he said. Albuquerque was just named one of Travelocity’s Top Ten “Beercation” destinations.
