TCU steamrolls sixthranke­d Oklahoma State

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Chris Evans ran for two touchdowns in the second half and backup QB John O’Korn rallied No. 8 Michigan from a halftime deficit Saturday to a 28-10 victory at Purdue (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten).

Evans had 14 carries for 97 yards for Michigan (4-0, 1-0).

O’Korn was forced into action when starting quarterbac­k Wilson Speight left late in the first quarter with an undisclose­d injury. O’Korn finished 18-for-26 for 270 yards with one touchdown and one intercepti­on. There was no immediate update on Speight’s injury.

Eldorado High alum Zach Gentry caught three passes for 48 yards and a TD for Michigan.

No. 22 SAN DIEGO STATE 28, AIR FORCE 24: In Air Force Academy, Colo., Rashaad Penny scored three times, including on a 53-yard run with 5:39 left, as San Diego State held off Air Force in a game that was delayed 88 minutes because of lightning.

The nation’s leading rusher struggled early in the soggy conditions, but finally found some running room as the Aztecs (4-0, 1-0 MWC) began their quest to capture a third straight league title. Penny finished with 128 yards rushing against AFA (1-2, 0-1), 68 below his season average.

No. 10 OHIO STATE 54, UNLV 21: In Columbus, Ohio, J.T. Barrett threw touchdown passes to five receivers in the first half as Ohio State (3-1) cruised.

Barrett, who has taken the brunt of the criticism for Ohio State’s inconsiste­nt passing game this season, was barely slowed by an outgunned UNLV (1-2) defense, completing 12 of 17 passes for 209 yards.

No. 18 WASH. STATE 45, NEVADA 7: In Pullman, Wash., quarterbac­k Luke Falk threw for 478 yards and five TDs as WSU (4-0) routed Nevada (0-4).

The Wolf Pack broke the shutout with 1:56 to play on a 3-yard run by Maliek Broady.

UTAH STATE 61, SAN JOSE STATE 10: In San Jose, Calif., five players scored TDs for the Aggies (2-2, 1-0 MWC) in their rout over SJSU (1-4, 0-1).

No. 1 ALABAMA 59,VANDERBILT 0: In Nashville, Tenn., Damien Harris ran for a careerhigh 151 yards and three TDs, and Bo Scarbrough added two TDs as Alabama routed Vandy in the SEC opener for both teams.

Alabama (4-0) hasn’t lost to Vanderbilt since 1984 or in Nashville since 1969. Vanderbilt (3-1) came in with the nation’s stingiest defense in points allowed.

No. 2 CLEMSON 34, BOSTON COLLEGE 7: In Clemson, S.C., Adam Choice had a 6-yard tiebreakin­g TD in the fourth quarter and Travis Etienne had two scoring runs in the final six minutes as Clemson (4-0, 2-0 ACC) wore down Boston College.

The Tigers, who came in off top-15 wins over Auburn and Louisville the last two weeks, were five-TD favorites over the Eagles (1-3, 0-2).

No. 3 OKLAHOMA 49, BAYLOR 41: In Waco, Texas, Baker Mayfield threw three TD passes, including the go-ahead score, as OU overcame a winless Baylor team to stretch the nation’s longest winning streak to 14 games.

Abdul Adams had a 99-yard TD, which came after a botched kickoff return, for the Sooners (4-0, 1-0 Big 12).

No. 4 PENN STATE 21, IOWA 19: In Iowa City, Iowa, Juwan Johnson caught a 7-yard TD pass as time expired as Penn State rallied to stun Iowa (3-1, 0-1) in a Big Ten opener.

Saquon Barkley had 211 yards rushing and 94 yards receiving for the Nittany Lions (4-0, 1-0), who outgained Iowa 579-273.

No. 5 USC 30, CAL 20: In Berkeley, Calif., Stephen Carr ran for a fourth-quarter touchdown two plays after USC’s defense forced one of its six turnovers as the Trojans won their 13th straight game.

USC (4-0, 2-0 Pac-12) has won 14 in a row against the Golden Bears (3-1, 0-1), but this was one of the tightest matchups in years as the game was tied early in the fourth quarter.

No. 16 TCU 44, No. 6 OKLA. STATE 31: In Stillwater, Okla., Darius Anderson ran for a career-high 160 yards and three touchdowns as TCU upset Oklahoma State to stamp the Horned Frogs as a Big 12 contender.

Kenny Hill passed for 228 yards for TCU (4-0, 1-0 Big 12), which put itself in a great position to start league play. The Frogs ran 52 times for 238 yards.

No. 11 GEORGIA 31, No. 17 MISS. STATE 3: In Athens, Ga., freshman Jake Fromm threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Georgia (4-0, 1-0 SEC) defense stifled MSU (3-1, 0-1).

Georgia establishe­d itself as the clear favorite in the SEC East with a dominating performanc­e from its first snap and the most impressive win of Kirby Smart’s two-year coaching tenure. Last week, State ripped LSU, 37-7.

N.C. STATE 27, No. 12 FLA. STATE 21: In Tallahasse­e, Fla., Ryan Finley threw for 230 yards and two TDs as N.C. State (3-1, 1-0 ACC) got its first road win over a ranked team since 2008.

Jaylen Samuels had two touchdowns as the Wolfpack broke a 10-game losing streak to ranked teams. .

CSU-PUEBLO 56, NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS 13: In Las Vegas, N.M., Marche Dennard ran 69 yards for a TD on the game’s first play from scrimmage to lead the ThunderWol­ves (3-1, 3-0) to an RMAC rout of the Cowboys (2-2, 1-2).

UT-PERMIAN BASIN 41, WESTERN NEW MEXICO 32: In Silver City, the host Mustangs blew a 14-0 second-quarter lead in a battle of winless teams in an RMAC game. UT-PB (1-3, 1-1) used a 24-point second quarter to subdue Western (0-4, 0-2).
