SPORTS SPEAK UP!

I’VE SUPPORTED Bob Davie but it seems to me as though he is being the divisive one by apologizing to his players and not respecting the opinions of UNM’s fans. After all aren’t we, not the players, the ones who pay for the tickets, parking, concessions and Lobo gear? The UNM band also seems to be taking undue criticism. (It) does a great job adding to the game day atmosphere. Didn’t a UNM official have to make the final call as to whether or not to play the national anthem at halftime? What a mess. — NM Old Timer

TO END THE controversy and to heal the wounds caused by “The Kneel” at last week’s UNM football game, an act that polarized the UNM fan base: A gesture of goodwill would be for the Lobo players to stand on the sideline, helmets off, hand on their heart and sing the words to the anthem as it is being played at the next UNM home football game. Just a thought and all voluntary, of course. — North Valley Wally

THE “FOOLISH FIVE” Lobos picked the wrong venue to protest — the national anthem. Although I support their right to protest, it was bad for UNM sports to create a nationally televised issue. I will tear up my season football tickets and my protest will be the “Empty Seat” at football games. — A 23-Year Air Force Veteran

THE VETS FOUGHT to give everyone the right to peacefully protest in the manner they see fit. If that bothers you, good, if it makes you uncomfortable and angry, Good! It is supposed to get you to think, not react like our moron president (Rex Tillerson’s words, not mine) who wants to change the narrative to somehow this is disrespect to those who have fought and died for our rights to protest. If you cannot see that, then you might be the problem. … — Count Von Hugenstein

OK GOLFERS. The divot fairy has retired. It’s up to us now to fill the divots with sand or replace the turf we dug up. A few extra steps won’t hurt. Also, when we hit the greens, there will be a pitch mark. We can use a divot tool or a tee to repair ours and maybe one or 2 others. Let’s leave the course in better shape than we found it. Thanks. — Coach Allan B.
