Brigadier General Robert L. Moeller, USAF (Retired)
Brig. Gen Moeller made his final takeoff on October 1, 2017.
He was born in Oskaloosa, KS in 1924, (parents
Paul and Bethel Moeller) and moved to Omaha, NE .Enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a private in 1943 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon completion of pilot training.
Gen. Moeller had a long and diverse flying career spanning over 4 decades in numerous fighter, bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. His career included 126 missions flying the Berlin Airlift, hurricane/ typhoon hunter missions, nuclear testing, and flying military patients (including the wounded and POW’s from Vietnam. He commanded the 58th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron at Kirkland AFB, NM. and flew the RB-57 F completing worldwide surveillance missions.
He held many command positions and earned many distinguished awards and medals. An accomplished civilian/ commercial pilot, he also won 3 national Formula 1 air races. After retirement, he moved to Melbourne FL where his new favorite job was golf.
He married, his high school sweetheart, Coila, and shared 73 happy years together. Besides Coila, he is survived by his son, CAPT. Robert Moeller, USN RET (wife Cindi) of Georgetown, KY and daughter, Peggy Moeller Mead (husband CJ/Skip Mead) of Albuquerque, NM. grandson LTCOL Chris Moeller USMCR (wife Shannon) and granddaughter Jennifer James of Albuquerque, NM. Also great-grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, Jack, Alyce Ann & Keegan. Preceded in death by son Robert Allen and great-granddaughter.
