Gilbert J. "Gil" Montoya

-

Gilbert J. "Gil" Montoya was born on April 9, 1932 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Teofilo and Magdalena. He passed away on September 4, 2017 at the age of 85 from asbestosis.

He spent 22 years proudly serving in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Master Chief

He had a second career working at San Diego Gas and Electric, during which he met many fine people, and had many fond memories of working with them. My Dad loved all his family and was always there to help them.

Gilbert had a life-long love of reading, liked working on cars and sports. He was a devoted San Diego Chargers fan (not so much the LA Chargers). In his later years he enjoyed traveling across the country.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Haruko; his sister and brotherin-law Tommie & Peter Jaramillo; brother-in-law Walter Montoya; and nephew David. He was also preceded in death by the loving companion of his later years, Chako Brown. He is survived by his son Steve; his sister Linda; niece Barbara Jaramillo and Linda’s children, Richard, Diane, Mark and Paul Montoya; and many grand-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Chako’s daughter Elizabeth and her husband Michael and her daughter Vivian, who became family to him. We will all miss him.

Breathe Easy Dad Services have been held and his remains interred. Please visit his guestbook at Greenwood Mortuary
