Italian film ‘Tiramisu for Two’ to be screened

The filmmakers began the project in 2010.
Over the course of six years, it evolved into what is now the feature film, which will be screened at 2 p.m. today at the Hiland Theater.
The event is presented by Italian Film Festivals of New Mexico.
“It’s exciting to get into a new market,” Carvajal-Leoni says. “We’ll be in town for the Balloon Fiesta, which will be our first time at the event.”
The film was shot in Rome and in San Marcos, Texas.
It tells the story of Giorgio, played by Bobby Olson, a peculiar Italian man who travels from Rome to Texas in search of a woman he once met, then lost, and found once again on the Internet.
What Giorgio envisions as an epically romantic moment is turned upside down by an infamous phony Italian chef, who decides to complicate Giorgio’s plans and drag him on the wildest ride of his life.
Olson says the film uses a blend of styles ranging from comedy to mystery to tell the multilayered story.
And the process took a while.
Olson says the original idea for the film was screened for a test audience and it came back negative.
“No one liked the main character,” she says. “We then had to go back to the drawing board and develop a better story. This helped us push ourselves in creating a better film. We were grateful to have this honest opinion of the film and took all the feedback into consideration. In the end, it made for a better film, and the point of it all is to have an audience enjoy it.”
The event is also a benefit for the children of National Dance Institute-New Mexico.
Both Carvahal-Leoni and Olson will host a Q&A session after the screening.
