Las Vegas, N.M., man killed in I-25 crash
A Las Vegas, N.M., man was killed in an early Tuesday morning crash involving multiple vehicles on southbound Interstate 25.
The crash, which happened around 2 a.m. near mile post 328, about 15 miles south of Las Vegas, killed 31-year-old Daniel Lucero.
Officer Carl Christiansen, a State Police spokesman, said Lucero was driving north in the southbound lanes with no headlights on when his car hit an oncoming semi-tractor trailer. The truck crossed the median and flipped, blocking northbound I-25.
“Subsequently, a second semitractor trailer traveling north on I-25 attempted to avoid debris in the roadway, (the driver) lost control of the vehicle and entered the median as well,” Christiansen said.
Lucero was pronounced dead at the scene, while the drivers of the semi trucks sustained minor injuries.
