Mary Ida Martinez

Mary Ida Martinez, age 70, was taken home to our Lord and Savior by his legion of angels on October 16, 2017. She was born to her parents, Napoleon and Amalia Bourguet on September 30, 1947 in Las Palomas, NM, south of T or C.

Mary Ida was a devout Roman Catholic and an active member at St. Edwin Catholic parish as the Director of religious education , Cursillo, Lector, Eucharisti­c Minister, choir, numerous prayer groups and most recently, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

She graduated a proud Raven from Rio Grande High School and later met her husband, Joe, on a blind date. They were married in 1972 and shortly after, Mary Ida began raising her four children, Elaine, Joseph, Natalie & Stephen. She returned to work as an educationa­l Assistant, then worked for 19 years as the secretary to the principal at Adobe Acres Elementary School.

Mary Ida was loved, respected and highly regarded by both the education and Catholic Parish community members she served. Her faith and love of God was felt by everyone she touched. Her blessings will forever hold the heart of many. She was a very generous mother with her children and would donate blankets to the homeless during the cold seasons.

Mary Ida is survived by her husband, Joe Martinez; children, Elaine Martinez and wife Felicia, Joseph Martinez, Natalie Martinez and Stephen Martinez; brother, Alfred Bourguet and wife, Theresa; sisters, Dolores Bourguet, Mickie Silva and husband Arthur; Uncles, Jeff Bourguet and Bob Armijo; grandson, Gabriel Martinez; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary Ida was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Bourguet; parents, Napoleon and Amalia Bourguet.

A public visitation will be held Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr SW with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Rosary to be presided by Deacon Nestor Garcia. Final Visitation will be held Friday, October 20, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a. m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. presided by Father Frank Prieto. Interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearer­s will be Joseph Martinez, Stephen Martinez, Andrew Silva, Diego Armijo, Andrew Pacheco, Adam Zamora.
