CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Desiree Flores, 17, of West Covina, Calif., caught a 20-inch, flathead catfish Oct. 10 at the Albuquerqu­e Drain. She was using chicken liver.

Nathan Orona of Albuquerqu­e caught and released four tiger muskies that ranged in size from 26 to 42 inches on Saturday at Bluewater Lake. He was using perch-colored Storm swim baits and white and yellow chatter baits and fishing from shore.

Jack Cisneros of Albuquerqu­e caught and released a 20-inch rainbow trout Oct. 11 at Fenton Lake. He was using salmon peach PowerBait.

AROUND THE STATE

ISLETA LAKES: Fishing at the lakes is slowing a bit for channel catfish as the water is getting colder. Baits reported have been stink baits, chicken liver and night crawlers. Trout are becoming more active, and once the lower temperatur­es stabilize, trout stockings will begin. Best baits for trout have been salmon eggs and worms. SHADY LAKES: The rainbow trout continue to bite actively on worms, salmon eggs and PowerBait. The easy-to-catch pond fish range from 10 to 12 inches, but an 18-inch rainbow trout was caught last weekend. Bass and bluegill are catch-and-release only. Bass are biting on plastics and top-water lures. Fall Hours: closed Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing at MANZANO LAKE was good using PowerBait and small silver and gold spoons for trout.

Fishing at TINGLEY BEACH’S Youth and Central ponds was fair to good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms and beadhead nymphs for trout. Fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was slow to fair using custom tied nymphs and single barbless hook spinners for largemouth bass.

Fishing on the ALBUQUERQU­E, BELEN, CORRALES and PERALTA DRAINS was fair to good using worms for carp, catfish and panfish and chicken liver for catfish.

At MONASTERY LAKE, fishing was very good using custom-tied nymphs, Fire Balls and PowerBait for trout.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER near Pecos on Monday was 116 cfs. Fishing was very good using copper John Barrs, San Juan worms, woolly buggers, PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for brown and rainbow trout.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 447 cfs. Fishing was good using Kastmaster­s, San Juan worms, streamers, leech patterns, night crawlers and PowerBait for brown and rainbow trout.

At LAKE ALICE, fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and spinners for trout.

At LAKE MALOYA, trout fishing was good using Pistol Petes, woolly buggers, copper John Barrs, PowerBait and salmon eggs.

At CHARETTE LAKES, fishing from boats was very good using PowerBait for rainbow trout up to 20 inches.

Fishing at UTE LAKE was very good using chicken liver and stink bait for catfish.

At EAGLE NEST LAKE, fishing was fair to good using worms for perch. Fishing was fair to good using large spinners, streamers, crank baits and spoons for northern pike.

Fishing at FENTON LAKE was very good using Pistol Petes, white mops, bead-head woolly buggers, PowerBait, night crawlers, Fire Balls and worms for brown, cutthroat and rainbow trout.

Streamflow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 21.8 cfs. Fishing on the CEBOLLA was very good using woolly buggers, Pistol Petes, salmon eggs and worms.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing was good using jigging spoons, blade baits and live bait for white bass. Fishing was very good using liver, homemade dough baits and night crawlers for catfish.

Fishing at GLENWOOD POND was very good using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout.

Streamflow on the GILA RIVER on Monday morning was 41.2 cfs. Fishing on the West Fork was fair to good using small pheasant tail nymphs for trout.

Fishing at ALTO LAKE was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, Pistol Petes and spinners for trout.

At GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR, fishing was good using bead-head pheasant tail nymphs, copper John Barrs, Fire Balls, worms and PowerBait for rainbow trout.

Fishing at EL RITO CREEK was good using Pistol Petes, Fire Balls, PowerBait and worms for trout.

At LAKE ROBERTS, fishing was good using Pistol Petes under a bubble, PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing was fair to good using dough baits, worms and liver.
