Notre Dame clobbers USC in showdown

Nittany Lions sky high after routing Michigan; Tide romps

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Brandon Wimbush passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more, and Josh Adams added three TD runs as No. 13 Notre Dame took advantage of three turnovers by No. 11 Southern California to win 49-14 on Saturday night.

The Fighting Irish (6-1) turned all three USC turnovers into touchdowns, giving them their first victory against USC (6-2) when the Trojans were ranked since a 38-10 victory in 1995. The turnovers came on a fumble and intercepti­on by Sam Darnold and a dropped punt by Jack Jones.

Adams had an 84-yard touchdown run and finished with 191 yards on 19 carries. Wimbush ran for 106 yards on 14 carries.

No. 2 PENN STATE 42, No. 19 MICHIGAN 13:

In State College, Pa., Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley cut through Michigan’s stingy defense, each scoring three touchdowns, as Penn State emphatical­ly avenged its last regular-season loss with a lopsided victory against the Wolverines.

Barkley set the tone the first time he touched the ball. He took a direct snap on the second play of the game and blazed 69 yards for a touchdown on his way to 161 yards from scrimmage.

McSorley ran for three scores for Penn State (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten), including a darting 13-yarder in the third quarter that made it 28-13 in front of the record-breaking, white-out crowd of 110,823 at Beaver Stadium.

No. 1 ALABAMA 45, TENNESSEE 7: In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Bo Scarbrough had two fourth-down touchdown runs as Alabama continued its domination of rival Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0 SEC) improved to 11-0 in the traditiona­l Third Saturday in October game under coach Nick Saban while dealing another blow to the slumping Volunteers (3-4, 0-4) and embattled coach Butch Jones.

No. 4 TCU 43, KANSAS 0: In Fort Worth, Kenny Hill matched his career high with five touchdown passes, KaVontae Turpin returned a punt 90 yards for a score and the TCU defense dominated KU.

The Jayhawks (1-6, 0-4 Big 12) had 21 yards total offense while tying an 81-year-old NCAA record with their 44th straight loss in a true road game.

The Horned Frogs (7-0, 4-0) improved to 19-0 at home as a top-10 team under coach Gary Patterson.

No. 5 WISCONSIN 38, MARYLAND 13: In Madison, Wis., Jonathan Taylor ran for a touchdown and broke the 1,000-yard mark for the season, and Alex Hornibrook passed for two scores as Wisconsin stayed unbeaten.

Taylor finished with 126 yards on 22 carries. Playing in his seventh game at Wisconsin (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten), Taylor tied a major college record shared by five other backs for fewest games by a freshman to get to 1,000 yards. Maryland is 3-4, 1-3.

No. 8 MIAMI 27, SYRACUSE 19: In Miami Gardens, Fla., Malik Rosier threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns, and Travis Homer’s 33-yard TD run with 2:48 left helped Miami beat Syracuse for its 11th straight victory.

It was the third consecutiv­e down-to-the-end game for Miami (6-0, 4-0 ACC), which is off to its best league start since joining the ACC in 2004. Syracuse is 4-4, 2-2. No. 9 OKLAHOMA 42, KANSAS STATE 35: In Manhattan, Kan., Rodney Anderson ran 22 yards for the go-ahead score with 7 seconds remaining, and Baker Mayfield threw for 410 yards and accounted for four TDs as OU rallied past K-State.

Anderson had 147 yards rushing for the Sooners (6-1, 3-1 Big 12). They trailed 21-10 at the break and proceeded to shred the overmatche­d secondary of the Wildcats (3-4, 1-3) in the second half. No. 10 OKLAHOMA STATE 13, TEXAS 10 (OT): In

Austin, Texas, Ramon Richards intercepte­d Sam Ehlinger’s pass in the end zone in overtime, after Matt Ammendola kicked a FG for Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) scored the winning points on a 34-yard field goal by Ammendola on the first possession of OT. He missed a 29-yard attempt in the fourth quarter. Texas is 3-4, 2-2. No. 14 VA. TECH 59, NORTH CAROLINA 7: In Blacksburg, Va., Josh Jackson threw three touchdown passes and Virginia Tech (6-1, 2-1 ACC) scored on fumble, intercepti­on and punt returns to beat UNC (1-7, 0-5). No. 16 SOUTH FLA. 34, TULANE 28: In New Orleans, Quinton Flowers passed for two touchdowns and ran for 138 yards and another score as South Florida (7-0, 4-0 AAC) extended the nation’s longest active winning streak to 12 games with a win over Tulane (3-4,1-2). No. 18 MICHIGAN STATE 17, INDIANA 9: In East Lansing, Mich., Brian Lewerke threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Felton Davis with 5:59 left for Michigan State (6-1, 4-0 Big Ten) in its win over Indiana (3-4, 0-4).

No. 20 CENTRAL FLA. 31, NAVY 21: In Annapolis, Md., Adrian Killins ran for 122 yards and two TDs, and McKenzie Milton passed for 233 yards as Central Florida beat Navy for the first 6-0 start in the 39-year history of the program. Navy is 5-2, 3-2.

UTAH STATE 52, UNLV 28: In Las Vegas, Nev., the Aggies (4-4, 2-2 MWC) overcame a 28-14 deficit with six straight TDs in a rout of the Rebels (2-5, 1-3).

WESTERN NM 20, FORT LEWIS 17: In Silver City, the host Mustangs (2-6) rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit to beat the Skyhawks (3-5).

Collin Grady’s 27-yard field goal with 52 seconds remaining gave WNMU the victory. Western linebacker Dominic Barry had eight tackles. WESTERN STATE (COLO.) 26, NM HIGHLANDS

16: In Gunnison, Colo., the host Mountainee­rs (1-7, 1-7 RMAC) broke through for their first victory with a win over the Cowboys (2-6, 1-6).

Highlands’ Rodolph Zleh had a 63-yard scoring run and connected with QB Danny Cameron on a 60-yard scoring pass.
