Bulldogs outscore Hive; Jaguars win on road
Albuquerque High’s football team had touchdowns from five players Saturday afternoon and won a 41-31 shootout against Highland at Milne Stadium in a District 4-6A matchup between two of the city’s oldest schools.
Anthone Stevens, Alex Ortiz, Jakhari McArthur-Harris and Luke Mummert had rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs (4-5, 2-2 in 4-6A), and quarterback Dominic Mesgale threw for a score as well against the Hornets (2-7, 1-3).
CAPITAL 48, ALBUQUERQUE ACADEMY 17: At the Academy, the Jaguars (5-4, 3-0 in 2-5A) raced out to a 21-point, firstquarter lead and cruised past the Chargers. Cisco Leos threw two long touchdown passes in the first half for Capital, which led 41-3 at halftime.
Saturday was the season finale for Academy (2-8, 1-3).
ELSEWHERE: Hobbs fell behind by two touchdowns early to Mayfield on Saturday at the Field of Dreams, but the Eagles (7-2 overall, 4-1 in District 3-6A) rallied to beat Mayfield 59-42, solidifying its hold on second place behind Las Cruces. … In Las Vegas, N.M., Robertson’s 51-21 victory over crosstown rival West Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon left the Cardinals (8-1, 4-1) and Dons (6-3, 4-1) tied for second place in District 2/5-4A.
8-MAN BRACKET: Foothill was given the No. 6 seed and Menaul the No. 10 seed in the 8-Man state playoff bracket released Saturday night.
Next week in the first round, the Falcons will face No. 11 seed Logan at Milne Stadium (day, time to be determined), while the Panthers will travel to face No. 7 Gateway Christian.
Melrose is the No. 1 seed.
