TO OUR READERS

- Helen Taylor Editor

In our cover story, Assistant Arts Editor Kathaleen Roberts introduces jewelry designer Rémy Rotenier, who is designing Nambé’s first line of men’s jewelry.

Born in France and trained in Paris and at Tiffany’s New York, Rotenier is now based in Albuquerque. Some of his latest work includes “Silver Heels” shoe pendants and sterling silver bats.

Arts Editor Adrian Gomez visits with comedian Rod Man, who is doing two shows Friday night at The Stage at Santa Ana Star. Rod Man won NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” in 2014.

Features writer Ollie Reed Jr. profiles artist Elaine Lewis, whose imaginative and colorful skull art was inspired by the skeletal figurines associated with Day of the Dead. You can see her ghoulish creations at Masks y Mas in Nob Hill, which is hosting a Day of the Dead open house on Nov. 3.

We also preview the upcoming TEDx ABQ Women’s event at the KiMo Theatre, and the Best Buddies’ Big Bright Breakfast next month at the Albuquerque Marriott Hotel.

David Steinberg reviews Patrick Ryoichi Nagatani’s “The Race — Tales in Flight.” The story of 15 women flying solo in a race, their thoughts as they cross the ocean, is described by Steinberg as a gift, “a visionary book that can open eyes and ears, and most important, expand minds.”

Nagatani is a professor emeritus of photography at the University of New Mexico.

In Travel, we visit Fort Collins, Colo., and its Beer & Bike Tours, which explore the local craft brewery scene.
