Lucy Mamie Gallegos
Lucy Mamie Gallegos, age 85, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017. She was born to John Dwight and Maria Pilar Lamberson on August 3, 1932. Lucy attended Lincoln Jr. High and Albuquerque High School, returning to school and receiving her diploma in 1986, while attending continuing education classes at TVI. She also participated in the N.M. Senior Citizen State Spelling Bee Championship for several years. She taught children’s religion classes at Holy Family Catholic Church, was an active member of the Sacred Heart League, member of the Blue Army, secretary for the Parish Pastoral Council and assisted with the Holy Family Senior Citizen meal site center. Lucy also taught exercise classes, assisted with commodity distribution for the County and was a volunteer with the Department of Senior Affairs for many years. Her most cherished moments were spending time with and serving as a role model for the children involved in the Atrisco Environmental Learning Project as a Program Leader. She not only instructed the children on planting and growing vegetables but also making scarecrows and most important, life lessons. Her children can attest to her excellent cooking and baking skills and her professionally decorated cakes. We will miss our Mother dearly.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sosimo Gallegos and brother, Raymond Lamberson.
Lucy is survived by her children, Richard Gallegos and wife, Chris, John Gallegos, Vincent Gallegos and wife, Fernie, Jeanette Padilla and James Gallegos all of Albuquerque; sisters, Martha Romero, Pauline Kassicieh and husband, Naim; numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
A Rosary will be recited on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Garcia Mortuary - Chapel of Angels on the corner of 8th and Iron. A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 10:00 am at Holy Family, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, with Interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
