New head of APS Foundation named
Barnhill, who has been with the nonprofit for 2 years, begins her new job today
Shannon Barnhill, who spent two years as a fundraiser and development specialist for the Albuquerque Public Schools Education Foundation, has been chosen to head the nonprofit that has pumped more than a million dollars into APS schools and classrooms.
A committee that included APS Superintendent Raquel Reedy and members of the foundation’s board of directors picked Barnhill, who will step into her new APS role today, the board said in a news release.
She replaces Phill Casaus, who left the foundation in September to become editor of the Santa Fe New Mexican.
“As a past member of the APS Education Foundation team, I have experienced firsthand the impact it has on the students and teachers of the community,” Barnhill said in a statement. “It has always been near and dear to my heart, and I have been impressed to see the continued innovation of the Foundation’s programs, the increased donor base and the overwhelming increase in disbursement of grant funding to schools.”
Barnhill during her years with APS has planned and coordinated numerous events and fundraisers, and she has also recruited donors and volunteers for the foundation.
The nationally ranked non-profit was established to generate private support of the district and its students.
“We are thrilled to welcome Shannon back to APS to continue the work of the Foundation,” Reedy said in a statement. “Her deep roots in this community and her strong ties to the district will prove beneficial as she advocates on behalf of our students, teachers and schools.”
