TOP PICKS FOR THE WEEK

- BY MEGAN BENNETT JOURNAL NORTH

As she flies over the stage, local actor Talia Pura will be acting out the life cycle of a butterfly in her one-woman show this weekend. “Metamorphosis” features Pura performing on aerial silks portraying the insect’s four separate life stages: the egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and the butterfly. The show was originally performed several years ago at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival and now will show at the Adobe Rose Theater, 1213 Parkway Drive Unit B, Friday-Sunday. Friday and Saturday shows will be at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s is at 2 p.m. General admission is $25, with discounts for seniors, military, students and the underemployed. Go to brownpapertickets.com to purchase.

CELTIC NEW YEAR BASH: A Celtic/ American folk duo who describe themselves as “modern day troubadours” will be stopping in Santa Fe as part of a multi-city New Mexico tour. Four Shillings Short, a husband and wife team, includes Aodh Og O’Tuama of Ireland and Christy Martin of California. Though their sound is rooted in classic Celtic and American tunes, they say they’re also inspired by other world music, like Indian raga. Martin brings the sitar into a mix of European and American instruments. The duo plays at Teatro Paraguas’ rehearsal space, 3205 Calle Marie, Suite A, Wednesday and Thursday, from 7:30-9:30 p.m., with stories, music and poetry in honor of Celtic New Year. Tickets are $10$15, with discounts for students and seniors. Kids ages 13 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

‘BEGINNING AT THE END’: A musician seemingly born in the wrong era himself, and whose latest album tells the story of a recluse who left the music industry and was presumed dead for decades, will play at Meow Wolf Monday. Ariel Pink, known for his 70s and 80s sounds, released “Dedicated to Bobby Jameson” in September. Jameson was a popular artist in the 1960s, but was mostly unheard from and lived in institutions, on the streets and with his mother until 2007 when he decided to make blogs and videos chronicling his life until his death in 2015. The album is described as “beginning at the end and ending at the beginning” of Jameson’s life. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show at 1352 Rufina Circle are $20 at meowwolf.com or $22 at the door. Ages 21 and over only.
