DIVISION 2A

-

NO. 2 ESCALANTE AT NO. 1 FORT SUMNER/HOUSE, 1 P.M. SATURDAY.

The teams met just two weeks ago and Lobos (10-1) were not happy with the result, losing 35-8 at home.

“They did several things very well,” Escalante coach Dusty Giles said. “They’re very physical on the defensive side of the ball. They tackle very well. Offensively, they run the ball just like Fort Sumner always does.”

To top it off, Foxes quarterback Jude Segura

“is the best small-school quarterback I’ve ever seen,” Giles said. “They can hit you from a lot of different angles.”

Not only does have Segura have a big, accurate arm, but he also is the fastest player for Fort Sumner (10-0).

“He throws an excellent ball,” Giles said. “He kind of ripped us apart in the first go around. He’s been doing that all year. That’s a nightmare.”

That’s not to say Escalante is conceding anything. That’s not how championships are won.

“I believe in our players,” Giles said. “They don’t have any quit in them. This senior group hasn’t lost very many games in their four years and even in the losses, they’re playing hard and enjoying playing football. I don’t think our kids are that intimidated. They just want to get out there and play, especially the seniors, to go out and enjoy this one last game.”
