James Herbert Yochim

-

James Herbert Yochim, 91, passed away on Monday, March 6 at Abrazo Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona after a brief illness.

Jim was born in Cleveland, Ohio.

He served as a dental technician in the Navy and was honorably discharged in May of 1946. He graduated from Western Michigan College and in 1950 married Betty Robbins. From the early 1950s through August of 2016, they made Albuquerque their home.

Jim wore many hats during his working years. He taught school in Michigan, owned a men’s clothing store in Albuquerque, played the piano professionally, and sold pharmaceuticals for many years. He worked at Camptown selling recreational campers and at Furrow’s, helping customers with building supplies. Most recently, "Jimbo" happily bagged groceries at Whole Foods. Jim loved the company of others and especially enjoyed sharing jokes; he developed a reputation for his extensive repertoire of jokes and oneliners. When his children were young, he enjoyed camping and fishing with the family in the mountains of New Mexico.

He leaves his wife of 66 years, Betty, son Rick (Katrina) Yochim of Cedaredge, CO; daughter Susan (Emil) Faithe of Phoenix, AZ; and grandson, Jeff of Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by son, Timothy.

A special thank-you to the staffs at Abrazo Medical Center and Seasons Hospice for their loving care and support.
