Candidate for U.S. House seat arrested

David Alcon, a political consultant running for a U.S. House seat, was arrested in Albuquerque on Friday after police in Santa Fe issued a warrant for his arrest on a felony stalking charge last month.

Metropolitan Detention Center records show Alcon, 39, was arrested around 3:30 p.m., and he was still in custody late Sunday. A woman in Santa Fe contacted police Oct. 28 reporting that Alcon sent text messages declaring his love for her and warning that she “better not leave,” according to court documents. He later sent images of his genitals, followed by messages that suggested he was watching her and that he was at her apartment.

The woman told police that she repeatedly asked Alcon to leave her alone.

She said she’d known Alcon for around 10 years, and although he’d texted her in the past, the tone of this conversation was unusual, police said.

Alcon is one of several Democrats seeking the nomination in the 2nd Congressional District.
