HOLIDAY WILD! FUNDRAISER FOR WILDLIFE RESCUE INC.,
OF NEW MEXICO, Animals, Art and more. Live falcons, hawks and owls will be hosting this year’s Holiday Wild! at Wildlife Rescue Inc., of New Mexico (WLI) on Dec. 2 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.. The event will be held at WLI’s rescue center on the grounds of the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, 2900 Candelaria NW, Albuquerque. In addition to the birds, there will a raffle for wildlife art, crafts and food for sale and activities for the kids. The event is free, but there is a $3 fee for parking at the Nature Center. NAMI WALKS 2018 PLANNING TEAM, a fundraising and awareness campaign for mental illness is seeking volunteers. Some positions available are Family Team Chair; Business Team Chair; Marketing & Publicity Chair and Core Team. Meetings will be held twice monthly until February 2018 and weekly until May 2018. SILVER HORIZONS, a local, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income seniors in Bernalillo, Sandoval and Valencia Counties, is seeking volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help distribute free groceries at their Senior Food Markets and deliver to homebound seniors. Each month, Silver Horizons provides free groceries to more than 2,000 seniors, and almost 900 grandchildren many of these seniors are raising. A variety of days and times are available. For

READWEST, an adult literacy program is looking for volunteers to assist adult learners in speaking, reading and writing English. No teaching or foreign language experience necessary. We use an all English approach and have trainers to lead you and your learner down the path to progress. We offer free training for English as a Second Language and Basic Literacy Tutor Training, followed by a 3-4 hour workshop after you’ve been matched with an adult learner. AARP TAX-AIDE, needs volunteers to help low and moderate income taxpayers during 2018. Free training is available during December and early January. Basic computer skills are needed for most positions. Volunteers are asked to work at least onehalf day per week during February through mid-April at nearby senior centers and community centres. AARP Tax-Aide is an all-volunteer tax preparation service supported by the nonprofit AARP Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service. Primary duties include membership reminders and updates; assistance with annual membership drives and tracking end of year donations; keeping membership database current, with the ability to create tailored reports; pulling down and tracking e-donations; and updating online community event calendars. STOREHOUSE WEST: serves a steady population of seniors and families who don’t have the financial wherewithal to purchase regular food items. Seniors and families each receive 35-100 lbs of food at an average cost to the pantry of $25 per household. Over 343,000 pounds of food has been distributed.
