Top-ranked UConn scores early, often in rout of No. 20 Cal

STORRS, Conn. — Crystal Dangerfiel­d, Kia Nurse and Napheesa Collier all scored 14 points to help topranked UConn rout No. 20 California 82-47 on Friday night.

The Huskies trailed 4-3 early before scoring 23 of the next 25 points to take command of the game. Gabby Williams got the run started with consecutiv­e layups. Later in the burst she made a layup while falling that gave UConn a 22-6 advantage. Sara Anastasies­ka hit a 3-pointer with 1:41 left in the opening period to end a string of 17 consecutiv­e points scored by the Huskies.

UConn (2-0) led 30-11 after one quarter and wasn’t really challenged by Cal (1-1) the rest of the way.

Katie Lou Samuelson scored 12 points but injured her left foot and spent the second half icing it on the bench. Kristine Anigwe scored 14 points to lead the Golden Bears. No. 2 TEXAS 120, UTSA 70: In Austin, Texas, Jada Underwood scored 19 points, Brooke McCarty had 18 and Texas beat Texas-San Antonio.

Underwood set career bests in scoring and rebounding (nine) while playing 21 minutes for Texas (3-0). Crystal Chidomere led UTSA (1-3) with 19 points.

No. 9 OHIO STATE 95, QUINNIPIAC 63: In Columbus, Ohio, Kelsey Mitchell scored 32 points, Linnae Harper had a second consecutiv­e double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Ohio State (3-1) beat Quinnipiac (0-3). No. 17 FLORIDA STATE 84, FLORIDA 54: In Gainesvill­e, Fla., AJ Alix scored 26 points, guard Nicole Ekhomu had her second double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Florida State beat rival Florida.

Florida State went on a 19-0 run, spanning halftime, to take a 47-26 lead. Former Utah State standout Funda Nakkasoglu led Florida (1-2) with 18 points.

No. 21 OKLAHOMA 87, SMU 75: In Norman, Okla., Gabbi Ortiz scored 20 points, freshman Ana Llanusa hit two key 3-pointers down the stretch and Oklahoma held on to defeat SMU.

Oklahoma (2-1) had a 16-point lead at the half but SMU (1-2) closed within three points with a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter before the Sooners recovered. No. 22 SOUTH FLORIDA 98, ARKANSAS STATE 55: In Tampa, Fla., Kitija Laksa scored 13 of her 25 points in the first quarter, Laura Ferreira and Shae Leverett had double-doubles, and South Florida (3-0) rolled over Arkansas State (1-2). State LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN 85, WNMU 44: In Lubbock, Texas, Caitlyn Cunyus scored 15 points on five 3-pointers and the Lady Chaps (5-0) rolled past the Mustangs (0-3). Ciara Fields led WNMU with 12 points.
