UP! SPEAK !?!

CHRISTMAS COMES early this year for folks in Albuquerque — both Mayor Berry and Police “Chief” Eden will be gone. All they gave us this past year was higher crime and the ART project. Who knows how they will be able to open their gifts this holiday season with all the blood on their hands! DS WHEN REPUBLICANS talk about tax cuts, better hang on to your wallet! JL

RE: TRUMP “sports trade”: Three entitled, petty thieves for one principled man who cares about the state of his nation, at great personal cost. Who’s closest in spirit to the Founding Fathers? China wins another trade deal. Truly sad. FS

CAN SOMEBODY please tell me how becoming a “sanctuary city” will, in any way, curb the crime problem in Albuquerque. Bad choices breed bad outcomes, especially on this one. CLH

IT’S HARD to get an accurate popularity poll for President Trump. The people that support him are all at work. DH

A LITTLE while back, there was a proposal put forth by Native leaders to help reinvigorate Downtown. The ideas were fresh, and the upgrade much needed to put us on the map. Mayor (Richard) Berry, demonstrating his version of “business sense,” chose to ignore it and instead spend money on our museum of a Convention Center. Somewhere along the way, an ART project was also tossed into the mix. (Incoming Mayor Tim Keller) may now have a chance to work with those same tribal leaders to make Albuquerque into a place where people really want to visit instead of a place where they may be forced to stay, and then might get their vehicles and possessions stolen. YOU CAN’T help but notice there are two sets of rules for political parties in New Mexico. The exact situation exists in Washington, D.C. Their swamp is not the only one that needs a good flushing. RDH

I’VE SEEN the TV commercial where the actress says, “I’ve got big plans.” Well I’ve got news for you, lady, life has a way of getting in the way of those big plans. DB

COACH (CRAIG) Neal could spot an opposing player’s slightest offense from across the court. And he didn’t notice he was accepting an extra $144,000 in paychecks for 11 months? People go to jail for taking beer that isn’t theirs from a convenience store. BK SEEMS LIKE all the panhandlers on the medians and street corners should be picked up and deposited on the curb in front of (ACLUNM Executive Director) Peter Simonson’s home where they can be guaranteed all the free speech they can handle. CS SO, REACTIONARY Christian conservatives are triggered by football players taking a knee, saying happy holidays, red cups at Starbucks, marriage equality, women’s equality, racial equality, yet they shrug at Roy Moore sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl? What does this say about the GOP? BF

THE STATEMENT “Your son knew what he was getting into” in reference to a military operation is not necessarily a negative. It is a compliment — he knew, and went anyway — was courageous and caring enough to face frightening and dangerous consequences. It’s all in how you choose to take it! VSL

MANY THANKS to (Mykonos) restaurant for its superb service, food and hospitality extended to all veterans and their families on Veterans Day. I know everyone there enjoyed it. KR

I WAS watching the news and they showed a brief segment on the people in Texas dealing with the aftermath of a mass shooting in their church. This was followed by a commercial advertising a gun show coming to Albuquerque. If you attend, you can purchase all the ammo you want. You also may win one of four free guns given out. You can also purchase automatic weapons. Of course, you have to be a lawabiding citizen. MC

TWO RECENT op-ed pieces railed against the socalled “death tax” and how it “often” causes the sale of farms. Neither of the articles cited any instance of such a sale. That is because, for the last 20 or more years, such sales have been so uncommon to be rare or nonexistent. HR

ANY SURPRISE that U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, with a net worth of over $20 million, voted for all the tax cuts for the rich? His vote sure won’t help N.M. or the rest of us. Just like his votes on health care. Remember, he is running for governor. CA
