Robert "Bob" McGeagh, longtime New Mexico resident and University Professor, Dr. Robert McGeagh, known affectiona­tely as "Bob," passed away on November 24th in Rio Rancho, at the age of 83. Family and friends knew him to be a pioneering rule-breaker, always up for adventure. He was an optimistic and generous spirit, who touched many people’s lives with warmth and understand­ing wherever he went and in whatever projects he worked. Born in Belfast, Ireland, Bob immigrated to the United States at the age of 19. He completed his undergradu­ate coursework in Philosophy and Theology before completing his Master of Arts degree in United States/ Latin American History from California State University-Fullerton. He then received his Ph.D. degree in Latin American History at the University of New Mexico. Bob traveled to South America as a Fulbright Scholar (Uruguay 1981; Argentina 1988). He produced various research publicatio­ns and articles in both Spanish and English. Most recently he authored two publicatio­ns on New Mexico History: Juan De Onate’s Colony in the Wilderness, and Emilio - A People’s Politician.

Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Josephine (McWilliams) McGeagh and his four siblings: Laura Murphy, Jim McGeagh, Betty Stonehouse, and Gerry McGeagh. Survived by the mother of his children, María Cortez; as well as daughter, Maureen Curtis, son-in-law, Tom Curtis; daughter, Christine Ancalmo, son-in-law, Mauricio Ancalmo; granddaugh­ters, Erin and Lauren Curtis.
