Coro de Cámara presents ‘Deck the Hall’ concerts

- BY ADRIAN GOMEZ JOURNAL ARTS EDITOR

The holidays are a special time for Nylea Butler-Moore. Like many others, she loves to celebrate with loved ones.

What makes Butler-Moore look forward to this time of year the most are the Coro de Cámara holiday concerts.

As artistic director of the Los Alamos/ Santa Fe-based chorus, she puts together the music.

Coro de Cámara will present “Deck the Hall,” a concert of holiday favorites, Butler-Moore says.

The program features choral arrangements of beloved songs of the season, such as “White Christmas,” “The Christmas Song,” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” along with fresh, new settings of “Here We Come A-Caroling” and “Deck the Hall.” “Sleigh Ride” and “The Sleigh (Á la Russe)” take the listener on a fun aural ride through the snow, while the Coro women remind us that “We Need a Little Christmas” through their singing of this popular selection from the musical “Mame,” she says.

Concert pianist and Coro accompanist Natasha Stojanovska will join in with a solo piano set. Singers Christina Martos and Carlos Archuleta are also part of the show.

“Natasha fell into our laps,” ButlerMoore says. “She just moved to the area, and she’s getting her Ph.D. in concert piano. She’s fabulous. The pieces she will be playing are classical pieces but are of the holiday nature. And I think we’re going to hear some remarkable things from her.”

Rehearsals for “Deck the Halls” began in November.

And getting the 18 members together takes some wrangling.

“Our home is in both cities,” she says. “We rehearse in both Los Alamos and Santa Fe.”
