James "Jim" Culbertson, 92, passed away peacefully in his home on Dec. 8th, 2017 in Albuquerqu­e, NM. Jim was born in Fort Scott, Kansas in

1925 and was raised in Jackson, Tennessee. He joined the Navy in October 1943 and moved to Albuquerqu­e to attend UNM with the Naval ROTC program. There he met the love of his life, Connie, and they were married in June of 1946. Jim had a distinguis­hed career with the US Geological Survey as an internatio­nally known sediment specialist.

Jim’s passions were music and singing. He was in numerous singing groups and was a dedicated member of the Highland Harmonizer­s for the past 25 years. He was also an active member of the University Heights United Methodist Church for 35 years. Jim was an incredibly talented civil engineer and was amazing with his hands, having built the first home that he and his wife lived in. He was also a loved Boy Scout leader. Jim loved genealogy and spending time with extended family at Family Reunions all over the country.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 71 years, Connie Culbertson; son Kinley Culbertson and Hiladawn; daughter Kay Taylor and Steve; granddaugh­ter Bonnie Priddy and Chris and greatgrand­children Tyler and Zach; grandson Jonathan Taylormoor­e and Melissa and great-grandchild­ren Samantha & Owen; numerous nieces & nephews; as well as many loving friends.

We will miss his loving nature, sense of humor, and beautiful tenor voice.

Celebratio­n of Jim’s life will be announced & held at later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to University Heights United Methodist Church.
