TORONTO — Mitch Marner and Tyler Bozak each had a goal and three assists as the Toronto Maple Leafs stopped a three-game slide by routing the Carolina Hurricanes 8-1 on Tuesday.

Toronto scored four goals in the first period and four more in the third on a special anniversary for the NHL. The first NHL games were played on Dec. 19, 1917, including a 10-9 win by the Montreal Wanderers over Toronto.

CAPITALS 4, STARS 3 (OT): In Dallas, Andre Burakovsky scored his second goal of the game 1:51 into overtime, lifting Washington over Dallas.

Burakovsky had one goal in his first 14 games this season. He shot over goalie Ben Bishop from the left faceoff circle in OT, and also assisted on Brett Connolly’s tying goal with 2:26 left in the third period.

RANGERS 4, DUC KS 1: In New York, as he has so many times before, Henrik Lundqvist kept New York in the game long enough for its scorers to break through.

Lundqvist stopped 39 shots, Paul Carey scored twice and the Rangers beat Anaheim to win their third straight. Kevin Hayes and Michael Grabner also scored for New York, and Nick Holden and David Desharnais each had two assists.

BRUINS 3, SABRES 0: In Buffalo, N.Y., Boston had to win the hard way.

Jake DeBrusk scored for the second straight night and Anton Khudobin turned away 36 shots as the Bruins beat Buffalo.

Tim Schaller and David Backes added empty-net goals in the closing minutes as the Bruins won for the seventh time in 10 games. After a 7-2 victory over Columbus on Monday, the Bruins held off the Sabres in a low-scoring affair that included defenseman Kevan Miller getting into a fight and two crucial blocked shots by Noel Acciari.

PANTHERS 3, COYOTES 2: In Glendale, Ariz., Mike Matheson scored early in the third period as Florida rallied from two goals down to beat Arizona, handing the Coyotes their seventh straight defeat.

JETS 6, PREDATORS 4: In Nashville, Tenn., Brandon Tanev scored the tie-breaking goal with 1:26 left, sending Winnipeg to a victory over Nashville.

Nikolaj Ehlers had two goals and Adam Lowry, Patrik Laine and Blake Wheeler also scored for the Jets. Tyler Myers added three assists and Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves.

RED WINGS 6, ISLANDERS 3: In New York, after so many close losses recently, Detroit Red was glad to get a win when it didn’t play its best.

Trevor Daley scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period and the Red Wings rallied to beat New York for just their third victory in 13 games.

WILD 6, SENATORS 4: In Ottawa, slumping Minnesota looked a little more like a Western Conference contender.

Eric Staal scored twice, Nate Prosser had a goal and an assist and the Wild rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Ottawa.

Minnesota had lost two straight and trailed 3-1 in the second period after giving up two goals to Erik Karlsson and another to JeanGabriel Pageau.
