Daniel Andrew Hedges passed on peacefully in his sleep and went home to be with His Lord Jesus Christ on December 23, 2017, in the early morning. He was born April 27, 1979 and was deeply loved and cherished by his parents, Daniel Joseph and Ginger Hedges; and his sisters, and their families, Jamie Mae Collins (Russell) and Mary Jennifer Forsthoff (Lucas); his aunts/uncles, Darla Armstrong, Gordon and Donna Walhood, and David Walhood. He was preceded in death earlier this year by his beloved grandfathe­r, Gordon A. Walhood Sr.

Daniel was a selfless and gracious man. He knew how to encourage others with his rich sense of humor, kind words, and genuine conversati­on. He was a loving son and brother, caring uncle, dear friend, and compassion­ate educator. Daniel grew up in New Mexico, Virginia and Oklahoma where his father served as a minister and university professor. He attended Hope Christian School and the Albuquerqu­e Academy, where he lettered in golf, and was on the 1997 New Mexico State Championsh­ip Golf Team. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Oral Roberts University.

After early careers in real estate, the golf industry, and sales, Daniel discovered his calling to teach special needs children. He then attained a master’s degree in special education from New Mexico Highlands University. Daniel was a gifted special education teacher who taught at Artrisco Elementary School, Grant Middle School and other schools. He had a purposeful calling to work with special needs children and was active in helping the poor and needy of the community.

He was an excellent golfer, taking up the sport with his father. As a youth he joined the US Junior PGA and soon became an experience­d tournament player and was selected to play in the New Mexico High School All-stars Golf Tournament two years in a row. He enjoyed playing many great golf courses throughout New Mexico and Oklahoma, especially with his favorite partner; his Dad. Daniel was a dedicated Christian and attended Harvest Church in Albuquerqu­e. He leaves a legacy of humility and selflessne­ss.

Friends may visit Friday, December 29, 2017, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming. Services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at Faith Chapel, 1726 Girard Blvd. NE.
