Mayor names 4 to municipal leadership positions
Community Policing Council manager among those appointed
Mayor Tim Keller on Tuesday announced appointments to four leadership positions within the administration.
Chris Sylvan, who was a policy analyst for City Councilor Diane Gibson, was named the Community Policing Council manager. The CPCs were created as part of a settlement agreement between the U.S. Department of Justice and the city of Albuquerque. There are councils in each of six police area commands throughout the city. Meetings often draw officers in leadership positions from those area commands to discuss policing issues. Sylvan will make $65,000 per year.
Helen Maestas, a former policy and research analyst for
County Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins, was named the deputy director of constituent services, boards and commissions. Maestas also has worked for U.S. Sens. Martin Heinrich and Jeff Bingaman. She will make $62,004.
David Campbell, a recently retired U.S. diplomat, was named planning director. Campbell has worked under Mayors Harry Kinney, Louis Saavedra and Richard Berry. He will make $115,003.
Isaac Padilla will be the director of government affairs. He most recently was the communications director for the New Mexico Senate Majority Office. He will make $70,012.
“Having an experienced team to serve in these different capacities is an important step for our city,” Keller said in a news release. “These talented individuals will help us tackle some of Albuquerque’s biggest challenges and implement our vision for a safe, inclusive and innovative city.”
Sylvan’s position was the only one that hadn’t been held by someone under the prior mayor’s administration.
Justine Freeman, the deputy chief of staff for Mayor Keller, said the position was filled because of the mayor’s commitment to community policing.
